I grew up in Minnesota, unable to own a horse of my own, but I never allowed that to stop me from learning about them and dreaming about "one day".... I rented books from the library and hung out with the local farrier. I did anything I could to absorb information and be with horses.
In 2014, I went on to earn my B.S. in Equine Science at North Dakota State University. I've since worked with hundreds of horses in numerous aspects of the horse industry; therapeutic riding centers, guest ranches, riding programs, and horsemanship programs.
I have grown to admire and pursue horsemanship in the way of Tom Dorrance, Ray Hunt, and Buck Brannaman. I love to share what knowledge I have acquired and seek what I have yet to learn.
Training horses, to me, is about teaching and coaching the horse into a more confident and trusting version of themselves, while they learn the skills to be a safe partner under saddle and friend on the ground. I use my body posture, energy, and emotions to communicate with the horse, as they are more apt to understanding these kinds of communication cues. Every horse I work with gets intentional one-on-one focused training to ensure their individual learning style is met.
"When in Rome, do as the Romans do." Ambrose
I work in union with horses' natural instincts instead of that of man's. This leans back on the aspect of teaching the horse through his own language and bridging what is unknown to him through trustworthy leadership.
